National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents in engineering and science. It is funded by MHRD, Government of India. It is a curriculum building exercise and is directed towards providing learning materials in Science and Engineering by adhering to the syllabi of All India Council for Technical Education and the slightly modified curricular of major affiliating Universities. The courses are well structured and are elaborate with details wherever the faculty members have felt the need. Institutions are encouraged to build their own versions of NPTEL courses based on their curriculum design using the NPTEL materials and collective experience of all IITs and IISc in TEL.
The fundamental goal of the project to bring in all the best teachers in the country under the umbrella of NPTEL and record their lectures/seek their collaboration with IITs/IISc and make their courses available for the community under free and open sources agreement.
Faculty and students can enroll for various online courses for the span of 4weeks, 8 weeks & 12 weeks and enhance their knowledge on the respective domain and can get themselves certified by the competing authority.Advanced NPTEL online certification courses are approved for Faculty Development Programme (FDP) by AICTE. Faculty members of institutions can benefit from these FDPs.
MGM’s Dr. G. Y. Pathrikar College of Computer Science and Information Technology, Aurangabad (ID 1427) has become SWYAM-NPTEL local chapter for online courses under IIT BOMBAY. The SPOC (single point of contact) for the local chapter is Dr. M M Kazi, Assistant Professor. Web link: https://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in/
From May 2016, MGM’s Dr. G. Y. Pathrikar College of Computer Science and Information Technology, Aurangabad has become Remote center for Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) under Indian Space Research Organisation, Department of Space, Govt. of India to conduct EDUSAT based Distance Learning Programme for Graduates, Post Graduates and Faculty members.
IIRS is a premier Training and Educational Institute set up for developing trained professionals in the field of Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics and GPS Technology for Natural Resources, Environmental and Disaster Management.
IIRS functions as a constituent Unit of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space, Government of India. Formerly known as Indian Photo-interpretation Institute (IPI), founded in 1966, the Institute boasts to be the first of its kind in entire South-East Asia. While nurturing its primary endeavour to build capacity among the user community by training mid-career professionals, the Institute has enhanced its capability and evolved many training & education programmes that are tuned to meet the requirements of various target groups, ranging from fresh graduates to policy makers including academia.
The Institute campus also houses the headquarters of the Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and The Pacific (CSSTEAP), affiliated to the United Nations and first of its kind established in the region in 1995. IIRS provides support to conduct all its remote sensing and GIS training & education programmes at postgraduate level. The headquarters of Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS), the largest non-governmental scientific society in the country, is also located in the Institute campus.
EDUSAT based Distance Learning Programme EDUSAT based outreach programme (distance learning programme) of the Institute is the first of its kind in the country in the field of 'Earth Observation and Geo-information Techniques. The programme started in the year 2007 with a modest beginning, networking 12 universities, and has grown since then with the present strength of 64 universities across the country participating in this programme. The Institute has successfully conducted seven courses on “Basics of Remote Sensing, Geographic Information System & Global Positioning System” and "Advances in GIS" benefitting about 5600 students at graduate and postgraduate level.
MGM’s Dr. G. Y. Pathrikar College of Computer Science and Information Technology, Aurangabad has partnered with Spoken Tutorial, IIT Bombay which is an NMEICT, Govt. of India initiative to enhance the skill set of students both UG and PG to promote its mission of providing resources to its students to make them industry ready. Spoken Tutorial Project is an award winning MOOCs (from Google), running a successful IT training program in India since the past 5 years. Training is offered on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Exotic and lucrative courses like Python, Perl, BASH, GIMP, Blender for multimedia, can be learned effectively through Spoken Tutorials.
The courses are useful for both jobs (Skill focus courses) and academics (Syllabus focus courses). The program is funded by MHRD, Govt. of India. The training is on campus.
The tutorial is an asset to the students since learning becomes more effective when animation and narration are presented simultaneously. Audio-video demonstrations can illustrate features with maximum clarity.
